Yes,
I am enclosing Fangyi’s draft BIRD.
On page 12 (Statistical flow with redriver)
Step 4. The EDA tool obtains the impulse response of the downstream analog
channel, which represents the combined impulse response of Tx2’s analog
model, physical channel 2, and Rx2’s analog model.
Step 5. The output of step 4 is presented to Tx2’s AMI_Init function and Tx2’s
AMI_Init function is executed.
Step 6. One of the two steps described in Steps 6.1 and 6.2 is executed.
Step 6.1. The output of Step 5 is presented to the Rx2 executable model file’s
AMI_Init function, and the Rx2 AMI_Init function is executed.
Step 6.2. Three impulse responses, denoted by hd1, hd2 and hd3 respectively,
are presented to the Rx2 executable model file’s AMI_Init function.
Note that Step6.2 requires that Rx2 support the additional IR. Step 6.1 is
required for legacy (existing) models. The Output of Step 5 does not include
the upstream model.

Walter -
did you mean:
...
Fangyi’s BIRD will give wrong statistical answers for legacy models if the
Rx2 has DFE or optimization.
Fangyi’s BIRD will give wrong statistical answers for legacy Dual models if
the Rx2 has DFE or optimization.
Fangyi’s BIRD will give wrong time domain answers for legacy Dual models if
the Rx2 GetWave function requires [assumes] optimization done in the Rx2
AMI_Init
Or did you mean something else?
I recognize that Init-optimizing Dual models (like mine) have issues playing
in some simulations and consider myself "encouraged" by Ambrish (et alii?)
to improve them if/when actual customers require them to play in redriver
channels.
As to whether model makers should be encouraged to make Init-only models
into Dual models, I would only comment that if the model maker sees
statistical simulation to be good enough for users' analysis of the hardware
modeled, it may be an uphill battle to convince them to do so, though
perhaps compelling-enough arguments can be made, especially for redriver
channels. Still, such model makers have a reasonable expectation that
statistical analysis under IBIS-AMI of redriver channels produces the right
(enough) answer.

Ambrish,
I agree that what you wrote is only in the Time Domain section, although the
time domain section includes the case when all models have
GetWave_Exists=False, and also allows to use the IR output of Rx2 as one of
the options instead of doing deconvolution.

Thanks Walter,
As discussed in the Open Forum today, BIRD 190 has no connection to the Init
only Statistical flow in the specification and hence I recommend to include
the ‘Note’ as described in BIRD 190 in the time domain simulation flow for a
Repeater link.
Thanks,
Ambrish.
