I noticed something else regarding Default. Considering the various Formats we have in the spec: - Value - Range - List - Corner - Steps - Table - Gaussian - Dual-Dirac - DjRj except for Table, not a single one of these needs "Default" because they all have a typ, or mean value. (DjRj may be another one without typ or mean, but one could take the average of min and max for that). In the case of the Table, we could use a default row selection, but I am not even sure how our Default would actually handle that... So I really wonder what use there is for Default for the Reserved Parameters? Shouldn't we just get rid of it all together? The beginning of the "Tx-only reserved parameters" section on pg. 145 and the "Rx-only reserved parameters" section on pg. 146 we have a general format description which looks like this: | (<parameter_name> (Usage <usage>)(Type <data_type>) | (Format <data format>) (Default <values>) | (Description <string>)) but later in the specific parameter discussions there is not a single example using Default. Shouldn't the general description of these two sections omit the Default, like this: | (<parameter_name> (Usage <usage>)(Type <data_type>) | (Format <data format>) (Description <string>)) Thanks, Arpad ============================================================ -----Original Message----- From: ibis-macro-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ibis-macro-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Muranyi, Arpad Sent: Friday, September 03, 2010 5:48 PM To: IBIS-ATM Subject: [ibis-macro] Question on Value/Default BIRD Walter, I want to ask a question about this BIRD. My understanding of the Reserved parameters is that they tell the EDA tool some information about the model. For example, | Init_Returns_Impulse, Use_Init_Output, GetWave_Exists, | Max_Init_Aggressors and Ignore_Bits are all parameters which provide information about what the model contains or does, or conditions at which the model should be operated at. Is the user of the tool and the model expected to change the values of any of these parameters? I don't expect that this would make sense... In that case, why should we allow Default at all? I don't see that there would ever be a choice to make with these parameters. Shouldn't this BIRD simply replace the Default with Value instead of allow both?
