On the LEAF there's no problem with dust getting inside the air cooled pack.
I've disassembled a dozen LEAF packs and they're perfectly sealed. Even ones
filthy outside are spotless inside. The battery cell heat transfers to the
sealed outer steel shell. There's no ventilation or airflow at all inside the
pack.
I know a 2012 LEAF owner who drove back and forth to work at least 8 miles a
day in a cloud of dust on an unpaved road for years and he had no problems at
all.Bob

Question on EV battery So because the older LEAFs have an air cooled battery
they likely would not be a good choice. But I believe all other EVs and even
the 2020 LEAF have liquid cooled batteries which should be fine. Sent from my

no expert on all the OEM EVs, but I don't think this would be a problem. I
would think most cooling systems would have a radiator and that you wouldn't

to that, or take issue with it?On Tue, Oct 6, 2020 at 2:30 PM Knoxville EV Club

<knoxville.ev.club@xxxxxxxxx>HiThanks again for your great talks during the
NDEW event. Two question I was hoping you can send to one of your experts is: I
live in a high mountain ranch, which requires me to have to travel 4 mi RT
every time I leave home on graded dusty roads before I hit paved roads. Do
dusty conditions cause problems for the EV’s batteries? I assume if air cooled
there maybe a filtration system to deal with gross debris. If so what migh I
stay on top of to prevent issues?BestLen NowakSent from my iPad
