Sort of.

So, how then do I know if I have 4G coverage? Will my phone say 4G instead of saying 3G, or how does that work?

Chris.

4G is purely a marketing term these days. AT&T calls its HSPA+ service 4G, even though it isn't technically. The 4G that the iPhone displays is to let you know you are in a service area which is capable of the higher speeds.

It's kind of like the broadband debate. DSL isn't technically broadband, either, and throughout most of Europe, for example, you can't market it as broadband. In the States, DSL is widely thought of as broadband.

Hope this clears up the confusion.
