So the first of many new Apple products arrived and so far this years devices
is off to a good start. I don’t feel I’ve had the phone long enough to
properly review but initial impressions are very good.
I’m also contrasting Verizon and T-Mobile to see how the network
performance especially 5G and how they compare. Sprint is of course no longer
and AT&T’s network has so many deficiencies especially on the back end and
interconnection that really I haven’t bothered with them in a long time but
others use them with varying success. I gave them a fair shot more than once
both wire and wireless and huge scale projects not just consumer level and AT&T
has always let me down.:)
So far though T-Mobile is delivering me a subsix 5G signal where I live
out in the woods and Verizon is still 4G all be it very good 4G. I haven’t
tried any of the new millimeter wave technology yet but I’m excited to bring
this phone in to a city and see what it does.
The phone itself is more square than a lot of the previous models,
doesn’t physically feel much larger than last years but the screen is massive.
Speed is a whole different matter. It’s snappy! Facial recognition is
silly fast now, the internal network trucks right along with WiFi6 being
supported, bluetooth is very solid with good signal reliability even in
congested radio environments.
I’m told the cameras are whacky good.:). I’m interested to play with
the LIDAR but I will say that so far doing things like lining the camera up to
scan a pairing image or code feels much easier.
On the down side, I’m not a fan of nothing coming in the box. No more
ear buds, charging cube, nothing, a single lightning to old style USB only, no
USB-C. I personally find that weak sauce but that’s me. I’m willing to field
any questions if anyone has any and I’ll do a proper review for the list once I
get a few more days with it.
Thanks
