HI K,
Thanks for your response. I have renamed the downloaded file extension from BKS
to .zip and a folder is created and from there I am able to get the two files
you mention and open them in Safari. I thank you very much for engaging with me
on this issue.
Bless you.

Hi Z,
Hmm.. how odd! I’m not sure about the bks format. that used to be the
bookshare proprietary format, years ago, here. I *think* it might be a
braille format. Can you select the download type, when you get the books?
Choose daisy text only, download that, and see how it unzips for you..

Thanks K. When I download a book from bookshare, it is in BKS 2 format. When
I zip them and then see in the unzip folder, the files are shown in this BKS
format again. So, I must be doing something wrong. But I do appreciate you
helping me. It hasn’t worked out for me yet.

Unzip the folder containing the book. You want either the .opf file or the
.xml one, I can’t remember at this point-long day! anyway, open either of
those files with safari by doing a command i on the file, then arrow over
and find where it says to open that file with, and choose safari from the
pop up button.

Dear Caitlyn,

Hi,
If you download the brf file, you can read it in text edit or pages.
Just make sure you’ve got grade 2 braille turned off, otherwise, it’ll be
junk.
the other option is to download the daisy text only version. this way,
you can open the file in safari and read it there, with voice over if you
don’t have a braille display.

Caitlyn
ps-I think bookshare now has their own web reader, but I’ve never used
it, so don’t kn works or how well it works with voice over.
