Have you changed any VoiceOver preferences. In the VO Utility, under
navigation, is the initial position of the VO cursor set to keyboard focused
item or first item in window?

message just sits there and I have to use the up and down arrow keys to begin
reading. I am used to opening a message and have it begin reading from the
top.
