In the Finder under the Apple menu open the About this Mac dialog and read the

Subject: [mac4theblind] determining the version
Hi. Another mac user asked me this question to which I do not know the answer.
If you want to verify what version or what operating system you are using,
how do you get your mac to play that information. I am sure the answer is very
obvious, but it has escaped me. Thanks. ************
