Hold down option-command-r during start up. If you do not have a recovery system available, internet recovery is supposed to start automatically.

Nope . I boot in to the consoul about once a week to repair permissions on all of my drives just in case. This can be used for troubleshooting rive drives, etc.

I discuss this in my basic tutorials number 9 at http://tffppodcast.com/premium and go over how to use some but not all of the features as at the time I did not know how. lol!

Take care.

if you had a beta installed you will not have a recovery partition installed. but try this.

1. turn off your mac

2. hold down cmd r.

3. power on your mac.
4. hold down cmd r for about 30 seconds.
5. turn on voice over. It might be very soft. if you get the propt that says voice over is a screen reader etc press v then I think hit cmd f5

Take care. .
