Ok, this is common but remember the meaning of bars in LTE is different than
HSPA+ or Edge. You need only 1 bar for connectivity with LTE. What’s probably
happening is your phone is selecting a higher frequency for more speed that has
good enough coverage. When you have data only and LTE disabled you use HSPA+
which in T-Mobile’s case uses a lower band possibly. Also, when you enable
Voice and Data you bring the 700 MHZ band in to play and with the new T-Mo
carrier aggregation roll out you’re actually selecting multiple channels on
multiple bands in parallel so let your phone do what it does and it should be
just fine with all the features enabled.
I love the audio now especially with the lightning adapter on good headphones.
It also gets a ton louder now which is good to have more power to drive my
higher end cans.

After rebooting I was able to enable the equalizer. I couldn't tell much

So restoring from a backup cross platform like that has never seemed like a
good idea to me. I always start my new iPhone each year with a fresh install
and using the set up as new phone option rather then restoring from a backup.
This way you don’t cary over problems from the previous release or have
compatibility issues.
To enable LTE go to settings, cellular, insure that cellular data is selected
as on then tap cellular options, under there you’ll see LTE which can be set
to voice or data or both or off, set to both voice and data unlesss your
carrier doesn’t support it or you have a compelling reason not to, and then
select back to return to your main settings screen. If you tell me which
carrier you’re on I can tell you more about what to expect while on LTE.
Let me know if you need any other tips for things to set up or optimize there.
And again I might consider setting up as a new device but that’s your call.
