Pugsley Commander MA State Police Crisis Negotiation Team South Boston Police Barracks "The Police Negotiator" Abstract The police crisis negotiator is used to defuse potentially life threatening situations through the use of proven verbal crisis management techniques. Negotiators respond to incidents involving suicidal, armed/barricaded, and the holding of individuals as hostages. Lt. Pugsley's presentation will cover the history of negotiations, an overview of the traits of a negotiator, the role of the police negotiator, and specifically the MA State Police Crisis Negotiation Team. At the WPI sign, turn left onto Boynton St., then right onto Institute Road., then right onto Private Way (West St.). Visitor parking is on the left after the footbridge. From the north: Take I-495 south to I-290. Follow directions as from east. From the south and west: Take MA Turnpike (I-90) to Exit 10 (Auburn). Proceed east on Rte. 290 into Worcester. Take Exit 17 (Lincoln Sq., Rte. 9), turn left at end of ramp., follow Rte. 9 west through Lincoln Sq., straight onto Highland St., then right at the light onto West St. Visitor parking is on the left after the footbridge. This colloquium is being held in Salisbury Labs, Room 115, also known as Kinnicutt Hall on the campus of Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts.
