Great, free program on solar energy from NEACT Friend Dr. Gonghu Li: Tentative Schedule of 2014 UNH Solar Energy Workshop Time & Date: 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, September 20, 2014 (Saturday) Location: University of New Hampshire (UNH) at Durham Organizer: Dr. Gonghu Li's Group at UNH Chemistry Summary With support from the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Li group at UNH is organizing a solar energy workshop on September 20, 2014. The workshop is free and designed for K-12 science teachers, but is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about solar energy. Workshop participants will gain hands-on experience in a research lab by working on solar cell and photocatalysis projects. The workshop will include a discussion session to explore how solar energy and sustainability concepts can be integrated in secondary education. Each participant will receive a free DVD "The Power of the Sun" consisting of two educational films on solar energy. Through the workshop, we propose to maintain and enhance current science teachers' knowledge and interest in the field. The workshop will help to broadly and effectively disseminate sustainability knowledge to K-12 students in their classrooms. If you are interested in joining the workshop, please send Gonghu an email (gonghu.li@xxxxxxx) by August 31, 2014. When available, more information will be posted on our website http://pubpages.unh.edu/~tgf1/website/index.html PROGRAM Arrival and registration A brief introduction to the workshop by Dr. Gonghu Li Assemble groups and lab tour Materials preparation Watch movie "The Power of the Sun"; lunch will be provided Assemble and test dye-sensitized solar cells; test different TiO2 photocatalysts Discussion on solar energy education Announce winners who made the best solar cells and photocatalysts The workshop is supported by the NSF CAREER Program (Award #CHE-1352437).
