Hi,
having build my python <http://www.python-lowracer.de/projects.html#p35> in aluminum, I don't have practical experience with sizing of the steel frame, but I think 13mm or even 26mm tubing, even in steel will not be sufficient for the kind of frame you intent to build. With this kind of tubing you would need to build some kind of space frame using a lot more stiffeners. Serge's Birdcage Python is a beautiful example. It is on the Python Project survey page <http://www.python-lowracer.de/projects.html#p28>.

There are some infos about sizing of steel tubing for the front part <http://en.openbike.org/wiki/Front_Tubing> on www.openbike.org or Jürgens Python page <http://www.python-lowracer.de/construction.html>.

I used AlMgSi0,5 (6060) 50x20mm rectangular tubing for the front part and 80x30mm, for the 'backbone'. All with 2mm wall thickness.

Anyhow, make sure the frame is stable before going at speed or in public traffic!

The current plan uses 13mm (~.5 inch) and 26mm (~1 inch) diameter tubing. Do you think I should double it up to 26 and 52?

More questions for all later.
