This morning I had a test ride on PX.1:
Pivot angle: 41 deg Trail: -31 cm Seat height: 34 cm Wheelbase: 121 cm Clearance: 14 cm Wheels: 2x24"
After 15 min of trying it was obvious that this bike is NOT rideable at slow speeds. The front part bounced from one side to the other and I felt like sitting on a seesaw. The pivot angle was way too shallow! Self-centering force and wheelflop were constantly fighting each other for the leadership.
Being hell-bent on making this beast rideable, I chopped it up into two halves and welded them together with a more steeper angle. 40 minutes of work.
Here is the data of PX.2:
Pivot angle: 54 deg Trail: -33 cm Seat height: 41 cm Wheelbase: 121 cm Clearance: 19 cm Wheels: 2x24"
Riding behaviour of PX.2 was remarkably better. No more wheelflop, no pedalling/steering interferences and very agile in curves.
After 10 minutes of practice I could make sharper U-turns than with P3!
With cautious optimism I would say that the PX.2 geometry is generally better than P3!
The high speed coasting capabilities will be explored, when the streets are free from snow and ice.
Another thing is that the seat has to be lowered by at least 10 cm, so that I can touch the ground.
Cheers, Jürgen.
