Thanks for being so quick to get things started.
I read a few comparisons including the one that Jürgen suggested.
additionally to the points from Marek, i found the following that sets
mediawiki apart from moinmoin

* mediawiki uses a database, which ist faster, especially in the long run
* mediawiki can embed flash and video files
* allows pages to be edited in sections
* has a discussion page for every wikipage, to sort out differing views of
writers, or inform people of the reason for making changes and its intention

+ Moinmoin has a draw plugin, which i found is not "that" usable at the moment.
Its probably faster to upload a dedicated image instead, created by your
favorite app.
+ MoinMoin allows for CamelCase notation to be converted into WikiLinks

So, despite me being originally from northern germany, were "Moin" is the word
how people greet each other during the day, and python being a python - we
should still settle for mediawiki.

Hosteurope seems to be a good choice. In any way, we need to be careful with
webspace. One solution would be that people with personal webspace don't upload
the images, and simply link to them.
Stephan: could you try this with your "42" page?

Dirk
