i had a few thoughts on this matter as well. Ideally, there would be some kind
of energy harvesting solution, that powers i.e. a mobile device that answers an
request sms with its location :-)
problem is, that the sms cannot be delivered to that device if it is powered
off, so you would have to keep resending it untill it comes back. Or you keep
getting a daily position report, given that power is available.  
It is always the same, smarter solutions have way more drawbacks in the end!
Simple one have some sweetnes. Having a visually appeling bike turned out to be
a very good start, indeed :-)
Best thing is to avoid having it stolen via a good lock.
Maybe a lock could connect front and rear part in a way that steering becomes
impossible while blocking a wheel as well?
