You could ride a low gear and do what a lot of fixie riders do---ride the
brakes on down hills.

I've thought about this as I love riding my upright fixie. But I would be wary
of a python-fixie's downhill potential. Going downhill can get pretty "bumpy"
on a upright fixie. If you can't move your feet fast enough, your legs will get
pulled and yanked by the moving pedals. On a python, I would imagine this would
add a lot of instability, as you steer with your feet.

Additionally, this "pull" between your feet and the pedals slows the wheel
down, basically creating a braking effect. Doesn't braking with the front wheel
increase the downhill de-stabilizing issue?

Hi all,

Regarding the pythons potential as a fixie: Imagine the difficulties
starting off in a gear high enough to carry you swiftly downhill.

Perhaps for show purposes though. As Dirk says: doing track stands
and going in reverse.

Saturday we are five unicycling addicts that will defy the cold
weather and make a 40 km tour on our 36-inch unicycles. This is the
closest I come to fixed gear cycling at the moment.
