If I were gonna try that, I would use an API called Twilio
<https://www.twilio.com/>. Now the hardware voodoo is beyond me (for now),
how to wire up buttons to the Pi and get it to check if the buttons are
pressed. But with Twilio you can call, text and do other stuff from any
internet-connected computer. It's not free, of course, but we're talking
about phone service, so it's not gonna be (LOL). You do need a web server
to use it, but the Pi can do that.
