As I understand it, Raspberry Pi OS, formerly Raspbian is essentially
Debian with just a few tweaks to optimize it for the Pi and a custom
skin for LXDE if you go for the version pre-loaded with a desktop
environment.
That said, as far as I know, there are no images, official or
otherwise, for installing vanilla Debian without the Raspberry Pi
Foundation's customizations on a Pi, and while I'm pretty sure there
is a generic ARM edition of Debian, I don't know how one might go
about installing it to a Pi, assuming it can be done.
