I question how much of the government mandated lockdowns and
quarantines the world over are reasonable precautions and how much are
just politicians wanting to look like they're doing something, and I
question how much of businesses voluntarily shutting down operations
is genuine concern for employees and how much is just them taking
advantage of a crisis to get rid of workers they've been looking for
an excuse to get rid of, especially since I don't recall the reaction
to SARS, N1H1, MRSA, or any other viral outbreaks in my lifetime being
anywhere near this extreme. Then again, I'm no epidemiologist, and I'm
of the opinion that one should always question the motives of those in
power.
And yeah, that's the sucky thing about biology compared to say, pure
mathematics. Where a test is known to exist in math, it's pretty much
guaranteed to give the right answer if performed correctly. In
biology, there's almost always the chance for both false positives and
false negatives, both of which can cause problems.
And yeah, the health care system in the US leaves much to be desired.
