Neither my desktop or laptop have physical volume controls, and there
are only two things I use sound output on my PC for with any
regularity: my screenreaders and listening to YouTube.
My current mixer settings work well for both of my screenreaders, but
even with the player volume set to 100%, most YouTube videos are a
whisper by comparison and upping the system volume to make YouTube
loud enough would cause my screen readers to shout.
Using headphones seems to put both at a comfortable volume, but I'd
rather find a solution that doesn't require me to use headphones.
I've tried searching for a Firefox extension that will remove the cap
on the YouTube Player's volume slider, but have had no luck(there are
plenty of extensions for 'enhanceing' YouTube, but they all seem to be
focused entirely on the visual side of streaming media).
For the record, I'm running Firefox 45 on a 32-bit Debian derivative
and I don't have Flash installed to force YouTube to use the HTML5
player.
If anyone has any suggestions for a solution, I'd be grateful.
