The Daffodil USB dongle works. Can't remember the model number. Look
at the e-linux web site.
But any dongle with the C-Media chip set should be OK.

Using the Broadcom ALSA driver with espeak stutters very badly. Hence
my OMX code. That is the same in the console and in the desktop, but
the OMX code only works in the console since I have not written a
speech-dispatcher driver.
But using a USB dongle it does not stutter.
But using speech-dispatcher in ALSA mode makes it crash all the time.
So my image will be desktop audio using speech-dispatcher using
pulseaudio via a USB dongle, and console audio using my OMX code via the
analogue jack.

Yes I think I am going to go with releasing it as using my OMX code to
give console audio via the 3.5mm analogue jack and a USB dongle for
desktop speech.
For Jeffery, I was thinking the same thing, but remember that whether
two males to one female, or two females to one male, it amounts to the
same thing.
If you had a two female to one male then:
1. Plug the single male of the Y connector into the USB dongle's output
socket.
2. Plug a 3.5mm to 3.5mm male-to-male lead in the analogue jack on the
Pi and the other end in one of the female sockets on the Y adaptor.
3. Plug your speaker or headphones into the other female socket of the
Y adaptor.
Result, both audio sources into one, and a desk that looks like a plate
of spaghetti. But the job is done.
