Doesn't speakUp offer something like that?
Sorry, but, I'm literally only a slight linux hobbyist, so, chances are
some of the other guys on list will have a much better idea about how to
handle that type of thing.

Aha, you’re like me when it comes to skype. I mostly use it to contact my

Oops, sorry. Went off-topic.
Can you perhaps tell me how to select text from commandline apps, like a text
editor, and then copy it to some other place? Since CTRL+C kills the process
I want to copy from, so I’m not sure which keystroke to use, if any, to copy
stuff.

Skype is cool, but, bear in mind you'll need to warn me before trying to
use it, since don't generally have it up and running.
Stay well

BTW I’ve added you to Skype if that’s alright. I found that details in your
current signature.

Jacques, if that USB audio adapter isn't driverless, then it probably
won't work with the raspberry pi's, out-the-box.
The two I have managed to use with both command line audio recording,
using arecord, and, with the ubuntu mate on it's own, as well as Mike's
combined image are pretty cheap ones that specifically state on
packaging that they're compatible with windows, mac and linux, and, are
pretty much generic/driverless.
The behaviour you're getting sounds pretty similar to what occurred when
just trying to use the internal audio with ubuntu mate - hardware
overload, so, it sounds like it's just reverting to trying to work with
the internal adapter.
If, from the command line, you type in something like the following
command, it should list all audio devices it has recogtnised:
arecord -l
HTH

Hi folks, Jacques van Schalkwyk again.===========================================================
I installed the mate image I got from the raspberryvi.org
<http://raspberryvi.org/> website.
Everything is alright, the machine boots, and I can get into the system
with the default username/password, which I don’t know how to change,
but that’s not important right now.
The trouble I seem to have is that the startx command doesn’t give me
audio to my USB soundcard.
I have a Creative Soundblaster X-fire go pro USB soundcard.
My raspberry model is a model B+ 2.
I have listened to the strings that PiEspeakup gives me after the startx
prompt, and there’s something about not enough processing capabilities
in there, then it disables command line, and other stuff and I get no USB
audio output.
I’m stuck with this.
As a side note, a different question.
I have experience of Ubuntu12, as stated before, but I’m somewhat stuck
with another problem.
How to copy/paste using command line linux? Since CTRL+C kills the
processes running, how do you select text and copy from commandline linux?
