Hello.
I don't know all the details, but here is how it is, as I am to
understand. We all know the elequents voice from JFW as sounding close
to what IBMTTS/IBM Via Voice is. The difference is this though, again,
from what I understand. IBM has licensed the voices to different
companies. Companies like FS have taken the voices, and kept slight
updates on them, as that is what their licensing agreements cover. Where
as Voxin, only has the rights to redistribute the voices. That's all
their license with IBM covers, and Voxin doesn't actually have the code
for the voice, but they update their packages and scripts to run on the
newer systems. Also, from what I understand, is since Voxin doesn't
actually own the voice to modify, and IBM hasn't given the source code
to anyone in the FOS world, the elequents voices you use haven't
actually been worked on, touched or fixed in about a decade. The actual
voice code uses what is now considered ancient libraries and packages to
support it, so it's actually pretty much like running legacy software on
your machine.

I'm sure more can be googled about the whole thing that's going on with
Voxin, but at least for now, that's a brief explination of why it's so
cheap to purchase, you're only buying or paying for a redistribution of
something not worked on in forever.
