Just wanted to say, thanks guys.
Got that september jessie image off raspberrypi.org, wrote it to an
SDCard, and, powered up the pi 3 hooked up to a LAN cable attached to my
router.
Used the app called netscan on my android phone to pick up that it's IP
address was 192.168.0.5, and used putty to SSH into it.
From there, FWIW, when tried to clone the ttsprojects.git project, it
told me there was already a clone of it there, but, all the rest of the
steps went through cleanly, and, after it all, I used raspi-config to
both expand the partition, just in case, and, set it to boot into
command line, and auto-login, and, then shut it down using the now
parameter, hooked it up to my keyboard, with earphones plugged in,
hooked up power cable again, and it started reading boot-up info to me
within roundabout 5-10 seconds, and, ended up as wanted - logged in, and
in command line, at prompt, etc. etc.
Stay well
