A PGA golfer was disqualified during the second round of the Wells Fargo
Championship on Friday for hitting himself in the head with his putter.

It wasn’t the actual hitting of himself that resulted in Zac Blair getting
the boot, however. Believe it or not, Blair’s act of frustration after he
missed a birdie putt on the par-5 fifth hole caused the shaft of his
putter to bend slightly. Since he finished the hole using the club, he
was disqualified based on the following USGA rule:

Golfers have smashed their clubs and broken them in frustration during
tournaments many times, but the difference with Blair is that he used the
putter after it had been bent. He made light of the situation by tweeting a
video of Woody Austin, who infamously bent his putter by slamming himself
in the head with it back in 1997.

Blair later got serious, saying in a statement that he let his emotions
get the best of him.

Typically when a golfer breaks his own club during a round he does so by
smashing it on the ground or snapping it over his knee like this

Blair will likely have a nice headache to go along with his DQ.
