The Big Sandy CBC was done on December 27’th. 113 species were found, some
of the best being AMERICAN AVOCET, (all new for TN CBCs, as was the
Barrow’s Goldeneye last year) PACIFIC LOON, LINCOLN’S and LECONTE’S
SPARROW, PALM WARBLER, HOUSE WREN, COMMON MERGANSER, FORSTER’S TERN, and a
pair of BARN OWLS. The weather went from 32 degrees and perfect in the
morning to 30 mph winds with absolutely terrible visibility on the water
most of the day.
8 people in 5 parties covered 12 miles in 2 1/2 hours Owling, 238
miles in 29 hours by car, and 11 1/2 miles in 17 1/2 hours on foot.
