The Nashville Chapter of TOS Christmas Bird Count took place on Saturday,
December 19, 2020. We had a total of 52 participants count in our 9 areas
utilizing pandemic birding protocol as recommended by National Audubon and the
CDC.
It was a cool and cloudy day but the rain held off until after sunset. Species
of interest included the CASSIN’S KINGBIRD at Bells Bend, a GOLDEN EAGLE AND
BLUE-HEADED VIREO in Harpeth East and a RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD in the Popular Creek
area. Count week notables were a LAPLAND LONGSPUR, SEDGE WREN AND MERLIN all
found at Bells Bend and a second RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD in the Warner Park area.
The group totaled 85 species for the day and 3 additional ‘count week’ species
plus the second Rufous hummingbird.
As always, thanks to our Area Leaders for their coordination of participants,
to Scott Block for providing the reporting link and compiling the data and to
all who took part in the successful day. The complete list of species can be
