I was at 7 Islands Wildlife Refuge in Knox Co. yesterday evening from 6:15 - 7:50 pm. I saw my first Barn Swallows of the season and was buzzed closely by a few Purple Martins on the riverside trail near the bench (not the bench by Steamboat Island). I believe these are my first Martins here--i've never seen any around the gourd nests. At one point 2 Martins and 5 Rough-winged Swallows were perched together on a dead tree hanging over the river--would have made a nice picture.
