For the last few nights a young Barn Owl (at least one) has been giving a constant food-begging type call from across the field in my neighbor's grain bin. Last Friday night and again last night I heard the adult as it returned to the nest giving it's blood curdling scream. I've had Barn Owls fly over my yard and the surrounding fields before calling while they were hunting but this is the first time that I'm aware of that they've nested in my immediate area. Pretty cool. It's definitely kept my dog upset as he has been barking a lot at night. He just can't figure out what that constant weird hissing sound is. Him barking gets the other dogs in the neighborhood going as well! It's not been quiet in our neighborhood for several nights now, but that's okay I'm enjoying having the owls around.
