A friend of mine invited me along to go to the walking trail at Barfield Crescent Park in Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, TN yesterday. She just wanted to go walking but I took an opportunity to do some birding. Nothing to report but I think it might be worth it at other times during the year. The trails seem like good trails to me. A few people walking dogs, jogging and the like but not overcrowded. Not as extensive as say Radnor Lake but a nice little walk and you never know what you might see. The creek bed there was dried up yesterday but there is an overlook at that spot and when it's full of water there might be a possibility of seeing something there. From what I could tell of what little I've learned so far about ID'ing trees looked like mostly oaks and hickories. These are the directions to the Wilderness Station which is the trail head there. From the direction of Nashville take I-24 East toward Chattanooga and Murfreesboro. Get off at Exit 81A (US 231/Shelbyville Exit) Turn right off exit onto South Church Street Go approximately 6 blocks (1.7 miles) to Barfield Crescent Road. The park entrance will be on your right. Turn right at the park entrance. Follow the signs to Wilderness Station and park in the parking lot there. You'll pass quite a few other signs for other parking lots in the park - sports fields numbered 1,2,3, etc and the like. I'm also going to try the Greenway trails in Murfreesboro and a few other places around there. My friend said we can go anywhere that I want in that area. She is gettting a little more interested in birds from talking to me about them. Barry Jernigan Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, TN
