Speaking of decoy double-takes, did anyone else notice the duck decoys on the
north side of Wildcat Creek Road, in the sort of marshy overgrown swampy place?

And Terry, at least you are bold enough to attempt a fall black-headed gull
identification. And person enough to walk it back.

Thanks for the responsesNobody has threatened bodily harm (yet)I feel bad about
sending anyone on a wild goose chase
You may be familiar with one of the famous RT Peterson stories, not sure if he
was the butt of the joke or one of the jokestersBefore a Christmas count near
Boston, a Dovekie was wood-carved and painted, then anchored in the middle of a
pond that would be on the route. At the compilation, the person who found the
bird made a big deal out of the sighting, only to be told the truth, much to his
 chagrin.
Chad Smith and I were with Jeff Wilson when he misidentified a Great Egret as a
Wood Stork; another person who will remain anonymous, was with Jeff who was
showing him a Smith's Longspur at the pits. The bird kept flushing, Jeff kept
calling it, until it finally settled down to become a partly leucistic Horned
Lark! As good as he was, just shows that none of us are infallible
I moved a sub-adult Cottonmouth off the road at Pace Point yesterday before he
was roadkill, either by accident or on purpose; have never seen Timber
Rattlesnake there. I did find a beautiful adult Copperhead in the road there a
few years ago that some yahoo had killed.
I spent 2 hours below Bennett's overlook, there is still some habitat present,
no sparrows yet, 2 Marsh Wrens.
Cheers
