Yesterday morning (10/1/2013) I had only a single Swainson's Thrush call in the pre-dawn listening; winds were mediocre. After dawn on my morning rounds I found myself face-to-face with a Gray-cheeked Thrush almost right after I stepped out the door! The difference between heard pre-dawn and seen in the morning continues to surprise me.

I'll probably try again soon, especially if winds are more favorable and/or the weather radar suggests a big push. Front due through sometime this weekend... we hope.

TN birders,

With the recent posts of Bill and Dean, tried the early morning monitoring of night calls from the deck on 28/29Sep13(Sat/Sun). The first am, had 12 Swainsons and 4 Gray-cheeked, while the next am had 2 and 1 respectively. Would be interested to hear if others have had any hermit or veeries the last few days. These heard were in addition to a number of " I'm not sure" calls heard.
