Brainerd Levee, Chattanooga, Hamilton County, TN October 16, 2004 One Mississippi Kite from 8:30 - 10:30 AM at the 1.0 mile marker (from Shallowford Road) perched on tall dead tree, one short excursion to river, one short sortie to catch large insect (Cicada?) with feet and beak Long black tail, long dark gray wings reaching to or past end of tail, wings did not appear to have white edging, but this may have been difficult to see against bright sky, some whitish spots sometimes appearing on back, light gray head, short black stripe or mark thru eye, small black hooked beak, erect posture when perched, frequently appeared to bite upright branch or rub beak against it dull white throat, greyish breast Thank you, Hurricane Charlie?
