Several members of the Chattanooga Chapter of TOS spent about 3 hours and 15 minutes at Yuchi Refuge in Rhea County this morning. A total of 58 species were recorded on the refuge. Several additional species were seen on the way to Yuchi. Highlights of the trip included: * a long and good look at a singing yellow-billed cuckoo * 6 great egrets * 6 green herons * 1 cattle egret at Yuchi and 9 others on Highway 302 * 2 solitary sandpipers * 2 lesser yellowlegs * 5 least sandpipers * 3 pectoral sandpipers * 4 stilt sandpipers * 10 killdeer * 5 woodpecker species: red-headed, red-bellied, downy, northern flicker, and pileated * common yellowthroats * yellow-breasted chats * wood ducks and mallards * 1 northern bobwhite quail * several wild turkeys * blue grosbeak * several indigo buntings * summer tanager * orchard oriole * dozens of red-winged blackbirds The shorebirds were seen in a relatively small flooded area in a corn field near the Tennessee River.
