I keep plugging the virtues of dogs...a good ol' mutt who needs a home would love to help guard it from "home invasions". Two are even better, since they are made braver by having a "backup". Maybe you can get your neighbors to adopt a canine and leave the birds homes intact. I was watching my dogs watch with interest as a pair of purple house finches fed their five babies who came along to the big tower feeder and quivered their wings and begged for mom and pop to put food directly into their mouths. I have this big feeder hanging in the dogs fenced area, where it is protected from squirrels, 'coons, and even marauding goats.
