I had a couple hours this morning and decided to do a little birding. I spent some time at the Disco center in murfreesboro. Bob Ingles was leaving when I arrived and only noted a Yellow Warbler. I quickly found a Prairie Warbler singing a funny song (half Field Sparrow-like) by the parking lot. I refound the yellow warbler and also had a few other migrants including a Hooded Warbler, 2 white-eyed vireos, 1 common yellowthroat, and a northern waterthrush. A field sparrow along the edge of the lake was odd. Two singing Swamp Sparrows were a nice treat (I don't hear them sing often). I also watched 3 male red-winged blackbirds nearly drown a female red-winged in the water. The female escaped and disappeared into the thick aquatic vegetation for a couple minutes before popping back up. I made a stop by the flooded fields on Kimbro Rd: 62 blue-winged teal 1 male shoveler 2 pied-billed grebe female mallard with 13 ducklings 3 lesser yellowlegs 1 cliff swallow among the swallow flock Good birding, Scott Somershoe State Ornithologist Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency P.O.
