Sunday, June 26, 2011 Duck River Bottoms New Johnsonville, TN Evening Lister... Today Steve and decided to throw caution to the wind and head over to The Duck River Bottoms in hopes the predicted "strong storms" didn't happen. We're glad to say it turned out to be a good decision and a good birdie day. We had 48 species...highlights included well over 100 Great Blue Herons and Great Egrets, 4 Bald Eagles including one mature adult walking the edge of a pool. Healthy populations of Common Yellowthroats, Indigo Buntings and Prothonotary Warblers. Two pleasant surprises were a Kentucky Warbler and a Warbling Vireo as well as one lone White Pelican sitting with a Double-Crested Cormorant on a stump in the The Tennessee River. But unfortunately we never saw the Sandhill Cranes that were reported early last week. We hung out till well after the dinner hour and ushered in what turned out to be a beautiful sunset. Another great day at the Duck River Bottoms! Until next time, Happy birding! <") ( \ / |` Cyndi and Steve Routledge Clarksville, TN "When one tugs at a single thing in Nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world." ~John Muir
