Hello all-I wanted to reach out to some local birders and interest groups to let you know about an event we're having this weekend at the McClung Museum on campus. We'll be hosting a free screening of The Curious Mr. Catesby this Sunday, September 30th at 2pm in honor of the Catesby Tercentennial. As many of you may know, this year marks the 300th anniversary of the arrival of Mark Catesby (1683-1749)---the 18th century naturalist, scientist, and artist---in the New World. Catesby spent four years exploring the natural habitat (and especially the birds) of the southeast colonies and the Bahamas, and the subsequent 20 years writing and illustrating his exhaustive two-volume Natural History of Carolina, Florida and The Bahama Islands. To commemorate, the Museum has a new exhibit of 52 of his prints and will show this acclaimed 53 minute film by Cynthia Neal and David Elliot.
See more information about the event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/343589965729664/ And view a film trailer here: http://www.catesbytrust.org/catesby-film/I realize that this is last minute, but we just wanted to pass along the information in case you or your group might be interested in the event. I've attached a PDF poster for the event that you can print out if you wish. Please feel free to pass along to anyone who you think might be interested.
