I rolled over to Lincoln Co. today, mostly to look for the rough-legged hawk, which I did not find, despite over 2 hours at the location.  I did find Jim Peters and David __________, or rather they found me.  I think they continued looking for the hawk after I left, hope they found it.  Anyway, we enjoyed birding from the dike for 45 minutes or so, until the owner showed up and chased us off.

We were looking primarily for the Eurasian wigeon, which we did not find, either.  There was, however, an impressive variety of waterfowl there, including mallard, Am. wigeon, Am. black duck, redhead, ring-billed duck, canvasback, pintail, green-winged teal, ruddy duck, red-breasted merganser, gadwall, bufflehead, pied-billed grebe, and horned grebe.  Also a small flock of horned larks right across the road, a couple of redtails, and a harrier. Thousands of blackbirds in the area, but either too far away or constantly swirling, impossible to sort through reliably.

Good birding,

Jud Johnston
