Re-sending, earlier post did not make the list. -----Original Message----- From: kings4birds <kings4birds@xxxxxxx> To: tn-bird <tn-bird@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sun, Aug 19, 2012 5:55 pm Subject: Neotropic Cormorant TVA Lake Shelby Co. Sunday 19th A NEOTROPIC CORMORANT Jeff Wilson found and photographed this afternoon was still on TVA Lake, near the Allen Steam Plant in Memphis, when I left at 4:00 p.m. It is a very small individual, about the same size as nearby Black-bellied Whistling Ducks, and half that of the Double-crested Cormorants. We watched it preen, then leave the shoreline opposite the road and railroad tracks along the lake, swim and dive some, then return to the shoreline to preen some more and sleep. 7 Double-cresteds were present as well. A congregation of waders continues in the largest borrow pit with water along Riverport Road. I didn't find a Tricolored Heron, but there are scads of Great Egrets, many snowies and Little Blue Herons, 15 or so Great Blues; no ibis today. Jeff reported he found fifteen species of shorebirds at the pits, most notably Baird's and Buff-breasted Sandpipers among the thousands, scattered wherever water remains. Gail King 5595 Ashley Sq. N.
