Eagle Creek flats; Henry Co.

As I had to run to Paris anyway, I made a quick trip to the Paris Landing area this (Wednesday) morning. Not much going on here, though there were 30 Ring-billed Gulls loafing around the swimming area at Paris Landing State Park.

The 1st flats are just starting to be exposed. One of the 1st areas to come out is the mouth of Eagle Creek, just south of Paris Landing. This is accessed via Bull Durham Rd. The flats are still narrow strips of grass now, but hopefully will soon develop into the extensive flats that have been productive the past couple of years for shorebirds. This area has been regular for both Baird's and Buff-breasted's the last couple of falls. Today, among the distant Killdeer, were a single Spotted, two Least, a Pectoral, and an always delightful Buff-breasted. Several gulls were loafing here, as well as 5 Forster's and 2 Caspian Terns. A couple of dozen Great Egrets were also present, as were 4 immature Little Blue Herons (which as several have mentioned have been scarce this year).

I checked a couple of spots for passerine migrants, but came up dry.
