Hi All, Yesterday, August 8, 2004, several birders in two separate parties independantly heard a Hermit Thrush singing a couple hundred yards down Forney Ridge Trail from the Clingman's Dome Parking Lot. This is in Great Smoky Mountains National park, just over the line in North Carolina and it is right about 6000 feet elevation. At about 5pm David Trently, Allan Trently, Tracey Muise and Charlie Muise heard a bird that we all agreed was HETH. When we got back to our cars, we found a note from Kim and Steve Henry saying that they had heard one in that location. This was on the return from a ranger-led hike to Andrews Bald on a beautiful day. Other birds in the area were all expected there this time of year: Black-throated Blue Warbler Canada Warbler Chestnut-sided Warbler Ruby-throated Hummingbird Cedar Waxwing Common Raven gobs and gobs of Golden-crowned Kinglets Black-capped Chickadees American Robin. strangely lacking were Chimney Swifts. ===== ************************************************** Charlie Muise, Naturalist near Great Smoky Mountains National Park "Growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of cancer." -Edward Abbey ************************************************** __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
