Hidden Lake State Park Davidson County Sunday, March 25, 2012 8:00 am - 10:00 am Sorry for the delay in posting this. The morning started out slow but it turned into a decent outing. I saw two Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers with excellent looks at one that was low in some trees next to the trail. Yellow-Rumped Warblers were numerous in the trees along the Harpeth River, along with a small flock (8-10) of Cedar Waxwings. There was a Palm Warbler feeding with some of the Yellow-Rumps. At the top of the ridge, I saw and heard a Northern Parula. It seemed to be moving through the area heading further north. I saw three Pileated Woodpeckers, one of which looked like it might be nesting in a dead tree near the river. It flew to the tree and entered a previously excavated cavity. Other birds of note were a Hermit Thrush, 4-5 Brown-Headed Cowbirds, and a pair of Tree Swallows that appear to be nesting in one of the bluebird boxes in the field near the parking area.
