Concerning the hummer I saw: I have not seen the bird again, but I have not been at home much. Between school and visiting my mom at Morning View Transitional Care, I have had very little time in front of the kitchen window. If anybody wants to "sit out" in the back yard, be my guest. When I have spotted hummers lately, they have all been immature Ruby-Throats. This dark headed/throated hummer just really got my attention. I did notice on this bird that it's tail was short. I didn't see the bird from the back, so I don't know if it had a notched tail or not. It's wings looked about a quarter inch longer than the tail. My husband, who is not a birder, also saw the bird, and he said that it looked "different" from the male Ruby-Throats we have. Sure wish I could see it again! Ann D. Tallent Maryville Blount County
