KY Lake areas of Henry Co.

I spent the morning, after getting off work, scouting around some areas of KY Lake. I had hoped for a few passerines in the process, and got just that, a few. KY Lake has finally dropped, though the flats are just now coming out. However, I found NO shorebirds other than Killdeer, the very recent drawdown probably hasn't created much food source in the flats yet. We should have birds present shortly though. Ky Lake was at 356.4 when I was there, and will be at 356.2 by the weekend.

Pace Point was well out, and covered with 250 Ring-billed Gulls and 10 Caspian Terns, but nothing else. The island at Paris Landing was the same, what little of it that was out was literally covered with 200+ Ring-billed Gulls. I did see 9 Little Blue Herons at the back of the Eagle Creek flats, a species that has been in short supply this fall.

The only warblers I had were several Chestnut-sided's, along with a sprinkling of Yellow, Magnolia, Pine, and Common Yellowthroat. Vireos were Red-eyed, White-eyed, Yellow-throated, and Warbling. Highlight of the day was no doubt an Olive-sided Flycatcher, my 1st of the year in TN. I had been scanning dead snags all morning when I found a bird on the overhead wires on the way into Pace Point. I didn't see any Empids all day. Another highlight was seeing full-juvenile Cedar Waxwings, which I have seen very few of.

If anyone's interested, I've posted a couple of shots of the very dark-sided Olive-sided Flycatcher from today, it's in my Olive-sided gallery at:

Good Birding!!
