Sept. 26-27, 2005 Mississippi River Shelby Co. TN I've went to the river both days before work and gave the birds an hour to reveal themselves. It's prime time for Sabine's and I thought a few Rita stragglers might head south. On Monday there was very little movement with a couple of Cooper's Hawks, DC Cormorants and a surprise, single pelgadis flying high and headed south. On both days, one of the Osprey was present hunting and perched. On Tuesday 70 plus White Pelicans sat across the river preening and a large number of Tree Swallows were resting on the sandbar, hunting the tree line and over the river along with fair numbers of swifts. A single Sharp-shinned circled south and I flushed my first Savannah Sparrow for the season. A Caspian Tern flew into and out of sight in a rush to an appointment that allowed no stops or feeding. So much for Rita.........She scattered some Laughing Gulls, 4 frigatebirds and a Royal Tern in Arkansas but that is all I've heard about. Good Birding !!! Jeff R.
