4/29/08
McKenzie area (Henry & Carroll Co)

I spent a few hours on this cool morning, checking some of usual haunts
close to home. Highlights were 21 species of warblers (only 5 transient
species though) and a singing Lark Sparrow at one of my most reliable
locations over the last few years. Practically no singing from the transient
species today, which made picking them up much harder. I am still missing
several birds I normally have by now, but that have been reported numerous
times already by others.

Highlights:

Acadian Flycatcher; FOS

Warblers:
Tennessee (singing in my yard, only one of day)
Northern Parula
Yellow Warbler
Cape May Warbler (1 male)
Yellow-rumped Warbler (numerous, but very quiet)
Black-throated Green Warbler (3)
Yellow-throated Warbler
Pine Warbler
Prairie Warbler
Palm Warbler
Black-&-white Warbler
American Redstart
Prothonotary Warbler
Worm-eating Warbler
Swainson's Warbler (2 different locations in Henry Co)
Ovenbird: FOS
La. Waterthrush
Kentucky Warbler
Common Yellowthroat
Hooded Warbler
Yellow-breasted Chat

I had a prolonged visit with a very obliging Lark Sparrow at probably my
most reliable location (Carroll Co), where they have been present each of
the last 5 years now. I only saw the male, but I'm sure the female was
nearby. I had a pair of birds here last year several times. I checked for
the Harris's, but I believe it has finally left on it's way to the Northwest
Territories or thereabouts.

I have posted a few shots from today (5) , in my spring 2008 gallery,
starting here: http://www.pbase.com/mctodd/image/96342494 .

Hopefully the Reelfoot area will be productive tomorrow!

Good Birding!!
