Many of you know Melinda Welton, a long-time TOS member and prominent local conservationist. I just got back from visiting her in the hospital, where she is recovering from an emergency appendectomy and appendicitis. She became violently ill while conducting Cerulean Warbler surveys in Hickman County on Sunday. Her condition was initially diagnosed as water poisoning from some water she consumed during her surveys. Later that night her symptoms became much worse, and her husband John Noel rushed her back to the ER at 4:00 AM Monday where she was diagnosed with a ruptured appendix and a severe case of appendicitis. She had emergency surgery later that morning. This is a very serious condition, and it was very fortunate that it was diagnosed in time to be treated effectively. I believe she is expected to make a full recovery. She was in good spirits when I saw her, and appears to be over the worst of it and well on her way to recovery. She asked me to let her friends in the birding community know that she recovering well, and hopefully will not be out of commission for too long. Hopefully, she will be out of the hospital in the next couple of days and will be able to update us herself, but if not I will post any updates that I have. I know that most of you will join me in wishing her a speedy recovery, so that she can get back to the urgent business of saving our Ceruleans! best, Chris Sloan Nashville, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to sign your messages with first and last name, city (town) and state abbreviation. ----------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, simply send email to: tn-bird@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx ----------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send email to: tn-bird-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TN-Bird Net is owned by the Tennessee Ornithological Society Neither the society(TOS) nor its moderator(s) endorse the views or opinions expressed by the members of this discussion group.
