Hi Folks:

Here is the Mendota Fire Tower Hawk Watch report for 9-15-05. The tower is
located on the Russell-Washington Counties border atop Clinch Mountain, about 3
miles from Mendota, VA.

It was another very warm and sunny day, but there were some scattered clouds
arriving in the afternoon. Temperatures ranged from 64 to 80 degrees. Winds
were light and variable, changing to the northwest in the afternoon. Ron
Pendleton, Bob Quillen, Gene Leonard, and Margie Leonard were there to help out
for
part of the day. The first Broad-winged hawks showed up around 10:30. However,
they quickly rose up on the good thermals and by 12:00, were very hard to
find, despite the scattered clouds.
